PESHAWAR: Six members of a family – including a woman and five children – were killed when avalanches hit a house in Matlatan area in district Swat on Thursday morning, said the district administration.
All the victims are of the same family. The head of the family was recovered from the debris by local rescuers and rushed him to a hospital in Kalam in critical conditions.
The district disaster management authority officer Amir Ali Shah identified the victims of the tragedy as 45-year-old Ms Robi and her daughters identified as 07-year-old Zakia, 5 – year-old Gulmeena and 3-year-old Zaheera. Her one and a half-year-old son also died in the incident. Another 15-year-old girl identified as Maryam daughter of Sher Zada, who was guest of the victim family is also among the victims.
Head of the victim family identified as 60-year-old Bakht Rawan was recovered in a critically injured condition and shifted to a hospital in Kalam.
Rescue 1122 officials in Peshawar informed that the house is situated some two hours away from Kalam where seven of the family trapped when avalanches hit a house. The rescue 1122 said that rescue workers have to walk for two hours on foot to reach the spot for rescue operations. The rescue 1122 said that rescue operation has been completed and all the victims have shifted to hospital.
The district administration officials said that this was the 2nd incident during the last few days, however, this one proved more fatal. The officials informed that there is fear of more such incidents, therefore, families have been directed to vacate the area for safer locations.
