QUETTA: “Balochistan budget 2019-20 is final now after strenuous efforts by all the government departments. It is based on the expectations of people,” Said Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Zahoor Ahmed Bulidi at a pre-budget press briefing on Wednesday.
Secretary finance, Noorul Haq Baloch and Spokesperson to Balochistan government Liaquat Ali Shahwani were also present in the briefing session. “All the stakeholders have trust in the government. The budget will be different from previous governments’ budgets which had been traditionally prepared in closed rooms,” said the minister.
The finance minister added that along with mines and minerals, they are investing on important departments to make them good income generating sectors. The previous governments had allocated Rs 500 million to Universities for higher education; the present government has decided to increase to Rs 1.5 billion.
The federal government has also agreed to support the Balochistan government in different uplift projects including the construction of Quetta to Zhob road, Quetta to Karachi road, Awaram Jaho-Bella road, Dera Murad Jamali bypass, Turbat and Bulida road. According to Zahoor Bulidi the federal government has assured support for other projects including the construction of small Dams in the province.
Financial Minister thanked Pakistan Army for not taking huge shares in the federal budget. While talking to the session Liaquat Shahwani said that in the history of Balochistan, for the first time, a transparent budget is going to be presented on June 19.
“Balochistan has been focused in the federal budget. “Tabdeeli” is coming in a year,” claimed Liaquat Ali Shahwani. Mr Shahwani added that in the provincial budget 2019-20, allocations have been made for all sectors, and seventeen thousand vacancies are going to be announced and merit-based recruitment will be adopted.
The opposition parties in Balochistan assembly have announced that they will start a movement against the provincial government for not taking the opposition in the confidence over the budget preparation.
