The federal government has allocated Rs 4,900 million for the “Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project” in the next fiscal year 2020-21, while Rs 100 million has been allocated for remaining five projects of Ministry of Climate Change.
In September 2018 Prime Minister Imran
has launched a tree planting campaign ‘Ten Billion Tree’ in Haripur. During the campaign,10 billion trees will be planted
in all major cities of the country in five years.
Prime Minister said that the purpose of the tree planting campaign is to combat global warming. Imran Khan lamented that Pakistan is ranked seventh in terms of threats caused by climate change global warming and environmental pollution.
“By being a part of Green Pakistan campaign, future generations can be saved from environmental pollution. Wherever vacant land is available, we will plant trees. If we failed to plant trees, the country will become a desert,” Khan has warned.
Pakistan’s Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project has been declared as the best program for environmental protection at the 25th Conference of the Framework Convention on Climate Change in Madrid, Spain. The international community at the conference acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to protect forests and reduce the negative effects of climates ate change.
