PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) while hearing the case against the ban on passenger vans, three-wheeler and buses said what if the BRT buses developed technical faults again and the service is closed for another month?
A two-judge bench of PHC headed by Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan said that every person has no personal car, therefore, if the buses were banned and the BRT services closed again how the citizens will commute within the city? As the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses are developing technical faults almost every day.
During the previous hearing, the bench had directed the Trans Peshawar and the Peshawar development authority to submit a detailed traffic plan. However, no report was submitted during today hearing. Therefore, the Director-General Peshawar development authority and Chief executive officer of Trans-Peshawar was directed to appear before the bench Wednesday (Today).
The bench during the hearing also questioned why the BRT buses have been parked in the open air? “Have you got these buses in gift or purchased with taxpayers money?” the judge questioned the officials. On this, the trans-Peshawar official reported that the buses are weather resistant. However, justice Qaiser Rashid Khan said that it does not mean to park in the open air even it is weather resistant.
The court directed the CEO of trans-Peshawar to appear on Wednesday (today).
