Illegal hunting a greater threat to wildlife

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday (25 October) declared the performance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wildlife department’s “extremely weak” to control Illegal wildlife hunting and protect wildlife.

A two-judge bench of PHC comprising of Justice Qaiser Rashid and Justice Lal Jan Khattak was hearing a case against the department for revoking the hunting license of the petitioner for life. Justice Qaiser Rashid remarked that “There is no restriction on guests come from outside wearing abayas to hunt our precious birds.”

“Wildlife performances is extremely weak,” Justice Qaiser Rashid remarked, “Arresting a single man will not do anything, there is a need to overhaul the entire system.” The judge also objected that it is not right to post bird killers pictures on social media. The justice directed the secretary to make sure the implementation of rules before issuing licenses. The justice also directed lower courts to dispose of case related to wildlife without any delay.
