PESHAWAR: While addressing a press conference provincial Amir of Jaamat-e-Islami (JI) senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has said that his party was against the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project from the day first.
“We thought it would damage the beauty and heritage sites of the city but the government didn’t paid attention to our suggestion at that time,” the JI leader said. “The only option for the government to overcome traffic jam and facilitate the public was the circular train.”
Former chief minister Pervez Khattak has declared JI responsible for BRT project delay and said that construction of the project was the responsibility of Peshawar Development Authority which administratively falls under the supervision of minister for local government. During the previous government, JI was in alliance with PTI and Inayat Ullah Khan was the minister for local government.
Mushtaq said that BRT has become a source of corruption for government, the project was delayed, several deadlines were missed, but no one was held responsible for the incompetence. “Incapable [PTI] government is fond of selected accountability,” the senator slammed PTI. “The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is not allowed to investigate the BRT project and other corruption cases against the PTI government in different projects.” Pervez Khattak has said that being part of the government for five years, JI did not criticise BRT project,
The JI leaders said while criticizing Prime Minister Imran Khan he didn’t fulfil even a single promise that he has made during his election campaign. It means, he has deceived the nation with fake promises and propaganda, Mushtaq added. He furthered that PM Khan was against the protocol when he was in opposition, but now since he has become PM he is enjoying protocol and it least 215 security persons has deployed in his personal residence.
Last week Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and speaker national assembly Asad Qaisar used two helicopters to inaugurate a project in Swabi, wasn’t that protocol and waste of public money, he asked.
Mushtaq said that since 18 August 2018, PM Imran Khan has posted more than 400 tweets, and many of them were about the opposition leaders, he has no sustainable plan for economy, peace and for the nation.
Talking about federal government stance on Kashmir issue, the senator said the PTI government has no clear stance on Kashmir issue saying that so the government has not taken any concrete step to pressure India. He added that neither airspaces were closed for India or bilateral trade with them. Mushtaq said the government should have called OIC meeting and we failed to convince world leaders and UN to condemn Indian atrocities in Kashmir.
“If the government is going for war with India, as federal minister Sheikh Rashid predicted yesterday, then, common citizens should be informed,” Mushtaq said.
