In what can be seen as a blow to Pakistan’s hopes of bringing back full-fledged international cricket to the country, Several senior Sri Lankan cricketers have refused to come to Pakistan for ODI and T20 series.
Media has reported that Sri Lanka One Day Cricket Team captain Dimuth Karunaratne, Twenty20 cricket captain Liseth Malinga and former captain Angelo Mathews have refused to play in the series starting later this month.
Sri Lankan Minister of Sports Henry Fernando confirmed to Media that some players cited security concerns raised by their families and refused to join the teams’ tour to Pakistan.
Minister of Sports says Sri Lankan cricket officials will meet with the players so that they can agree on a visit to Pakistan.
“I told the players that I’m ready to go to Pakistan with them,” Minister Fernando said.
A meeting organized by Sri Lanka Cricket with players of the national team on Monday, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement, however the players refused to take the decision back.
Sri Lankan cricket team had decided to play a series of ODIs and Twenty20 Internationals matches in Pakistan last month.
