BUNER: A landlord has thrown acid on six cows in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for trespassing into his agriculture land.
Kareem Muhammad owner of the cows said in a video statement that his cows sustained burn injuries on their backs, necks and on other sensitive parts and livestock department officials have provided them necessary medications.
Kareem told that a landlord Syed Rauf threw acid on his cows at the time when it were grazing in nearby forests. He said that he himself was not present at that time, but his son was grazing the cattle, unfortunately, six cows slipped into his field. As a result, the landlord locked the animals in a room and sprinkled acid on them, Kareem explained.
Kareem further said that when they contacted Rauf and asked about the barbarism of throwing acids on animals, he replied that “why did you allow your cattle to cross the threshold of my fields,” Kareem quoting Rauf.
In a telephonic conversation Police told The Pakistan Enquirer that the incident took place in Sangar Dairai, Sura Village in district Buner and FIR has been filed in Nawgai Police station against the accused person Syed Rauf.
Police said that section 429 of Pakistan Penal Code has included in FIR which reads whoever commits mischief by killing, poisoning or doing ill to animals including cows and ox, shall be punished with imprisonment that may extend to five years, or with fine, or with both fine and imprisonment. “We are investigating the case but the accused involved in acid throwing incident has acquired bail before arrest in the local court,” police added.
An amended bill Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Amendment) Act, 2018 was passed by Senate of Pakistan on 22 January 2018, in which fine has been increased from 50 to 100 thousand rupees and not less than 30 thousand against cruelties on animals, nothing else was changed.
The video of the animals with burn injuries went viral on social media and the citizens are demanding the concern authorities to take a strong action against the accused person and protect animals from cruelties.
