Peshawar: Nowshera Police arrested a father in murder case of his transgender son on Saturday. Body of 19 years old transgender was found in Khat-Kalay village in the limits of Nowshera Cantonment Police station on Saturday morning.
The police registered FIR against unknown assailants and arrested the transgender father Aurangzeb in the case. The police had found the body of 19 years old Aftab, alias Maya, a resident of Azakhel, Nowshera in the morning which was earlier unidentified. The body was taken to District Headquarter Hospital Nowshera Kalan for postmortem, states the FIR.
The police said that the transgender was killed in the night and they arrested his father in the case and were conducting raids to arrest his uncle too.
The father and uncle had brought Aftab from Peshawar after giving written statement to Hashtnagri police that the father and uncle are taking Aftab back to home and would keep him safe and sound. They had also taken responsibility of the safety of Aftab who was living with friends in Peshawar and was unwilling to go back to home.
Civil society activist, Qamar Naseem told The Pakistan Enquirer that the matter regarding the custody of Aftab was decided in Hashtnagri police station of Peshawar on Friday. He added that his father and uncle had given assurance in writing that they are taking Aftab back home and will be responsible for his safety.
As the murder news of Aftab reached to Peshawar in the morning, transgender gathered outside the Hashtnagri police station and held a protest demonstration. They had announced to hold the funeral prayers outside Hashtnagri police station as a token of protest but the police did not hand over the body to the transgender saying that the family was asking for the body. The transgenders shouted slogans against the police and demanded justice for Aftab and protection for transgenders.
