PESHAWAR: The district administration on Tuesday imposed smart lockdown in 23 localities in Peshawar to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus as the province has reported the deaths of 22 more people in the preceding 24 hours.
A notification issued by the administration said that Basheer Abad, Hayatabad Phase-VI, Ring Road, Kabal Canal Road and Charsadda Road in Peshawar have been sealed and movement of people was restricted.
The civil administration backed by police and security forces sealed 23 places in interior city including two shopping malls due to violation of standards operating procedures (SOPs) and arrested 324 people besides taking custody of 51 vehicles from different areas on violation of SOPs, said the spokesman of district administration Peshawar while talking to APP on Tuesday.
The administration and police also imposed Rs60, 100 fine on people, shopkeepers and traders due to violation of SOPs [Standard Operating Procedures].
The entry and exist of people in the lockdown areas were restricted and residents were asked to avoid unnecessary visits to crowded places. However, the shops of milk, meat, edibles, medicines, bread makers and others essential services would be opened.
In line of the decision of National Coordination and Operational Centre, registration for vaccination of people aged 40 or above has been started in Khyber Pakistan. In last two days, 10 coronavirus patients died at Khalifa Gulnawaz hospital in Bannu district where patrolling of law enforcement agencies for Implementation of SOPS continued. People were advised to strictly follow anti coronavirus SOPs for their own safety and love ones.
The district administration has said that 22 more people have been killed by Coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the report of the health department, the positivity rate of coronavirus in the province has reached 8.4 percent.
Referring to the statistics, the spokesperson said that in the last seven days, the rate of coronavirus in Mardan was the highest recorded at 32%. In the last 24 hours, Lakki Marwat recorded the highest level of coronavirus positivity rate of 67%, Buner recorded 58% , Peshawar 11% and Bajaur 23%.
The health department further said that the number of active cases of coronavirus in the province is 13,460, at present 1,081 patients are being treated in various hospitals in HDUs, 172 Covid-19 patients are in ICUs of different hospitals and 89 patients are on ventilators.
Meanwhile, the use of oxygen in hospitals in Peshawar has increased dramatically with the increase in the number of coronavirus patients, the use of oxygen has also increased. According to the spokespersons, oxygen consumption has doubled in Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) and Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC).
The daily oxygen consumption in HMC has reached 6500 liters. The hospital has the capacity to store 24,928 liters of oxygen. According to the report, the daily consumption of oxygen in Khyber Teaching Hospital is 6,000 liters and the capacity is 10,000 liters.
Bangash further said that Pakistan Army has been deployed in the province along with civilian agencies. He said that people should support the government to stay safe from the virus. “The provincial government is taking concrete steps to control the Coronavirus pandemic, all educational institutions in 28 districts have been closed,” Bangash said.
Bangash said that the capacity of healthcare has been substantially enhanced in the province. The daily testing capacity in the province has also been enhanced as more than 8,000 tests are being conducted daily, he said.
