Hegemonic Masculinity
Hegemonic Masculinity

The term Hegemonic Masculinity is used as an academic tool, being the part of R. W. Connell’s gender order theory and is defined as a practice that legitimizes men’s dominant position in society and justifies the subordination of the female population. But, do we ever realize how bad of an alter these socially constructed terms cause when they are knocked with the building of a character, irrespective of genders? I reckon we don’t. Had we ever, the world would be an easy locale for males.

The term Hegemonic Masculinity demands a focus on practices other than personality and behavior. Because men who are overly focused on their appearance can be accused of being “weak” and “homosexual”, thus leaving them no possibility of being expressive.

The idea of Hegemonic Masculinity enables us to see how the existence of plural masculinities creates control not only between men and women but also between men themselves. Any man that tries to exemplify this manliness must show aggressive and violent behavior while restraining the progression of his vulnerable feelings. He shall likewise show quality and strength, and be focused and successful. They are demoralized of how society’s odd expectations force them to mask their feelings of isolation, sadness, yearning, love, and expectation.  Whilst in long-lived traditional crisis, males deserve a place where they could be comfortable about crying, and not caring about their socially constructed image that makes them masculine in terms of being strong, unemotional, rational, objective and more in self-control. We have marginalized this open space to something so narrow for this community that the exhaustion and aggression building inside of them comes out only as violence. Their cries when choked by societal pressure creates a monster inside of them. That too, when pushed by someone, comes out as a barbaric behavior that is unacceptable to the same outdated society.

I, being someone who stands against oppression against female would never allow for that but being an open house for all kind of emotions doesn’t even give me any right to put a gag over a man’s sentiments. They too need a platform to be heard. I believed they have been given enough space, only to rewind back and realize that that space was created for them only to be masculine and be a Hegemone over female. That space wasn’t created for them to act out as a free-man emotional ship.

“Trans Generational Cycle of Agression”
“Trans Generational Cycle of Agression”

Hegemonic Masculinity is ostensibly a worldwide episode that happens across different social levels. It thus influences International relations, household governmental issues, military practices and education. Just to give a couple of models, it works on three levels: the local, the regional and the global, hereby leaving an influence of its intimidating attitude all over.

Men face sexual orientation related issues, much the same as ladies. This makes an obligation of shared bonds and solidarity among both of them, which could produce an awakening on gender perceptions. An answer could be the advancement of open thinking and discussions in regards to the impacts of disempowerment produced by hegemonic masculinities. We all have got dilemmas but combinedly, in a different context. All of these dilemmas interconnect us because ultimately, we, ourselves are its solution.  Thus, men will actively enroll in the advancement of betterment alongside women, adding to making society fairer for both male and female.

“The problems created by us have to be resolved by us”

There has been created a hierarchy for males, a demand to be met and a position to be held. Their position orders them to show toughness and rigidness in their behavior which is a competitive problem not for them but for women and society as well. None of them complains like us women but that doesn’t mean they don’t have problems. By understanding males, we can change our general public, supporting the development of a genuine, full fairness between and among genders.
